       When melittin binds to the cancer cell membrane, it causes the formation of pores or holes in the membrane, which leads to an influx of ions and the loss of vital cellular contents. This ultimately leads to the death of the cancer cell, as it is unable to maintain its internal environment.


       


Research has shown that melittin is effective against a wide range of cancer cells, including breast, prostate, bladder, and skin cancer. It has been found to be particularly effective against triple-negative breast cancer, which is known to be highly aggressive and difficult to treat.
